Rouhani’s WAVE proposal discussed in Davos WEF

DAVOS, Jan. 24 (MNA) – The World Economic Forum in Davos put up for discussion President Rouhani’s proposal on World against Violence and Extremism on Friday.

Iranian delegation headed by Foreign Minister Mohamamd Javad Zarif and Head of president’s office Mohammad Nahavandian had left for Davos on January 23rd to attend the 45th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in the Swiss city.

A private meeting took place on Friday morning with world’s political figures including Kofi Atta Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations as well as Iraqi Vice President Ayad Allawi.

In December 2013, the United Nations adopted a resolution based on Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s proposals for a World against Violence and Extremism (WAVE). Under the resolution, the General Assembly would urge all member states to unite against violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, including sectarian violence.

It would also encourage efforts by leaders to discuss within their communities the causes of violent extremism and discrimination, and evolve strategies to address them.

Last month, Iran had held a two-day international conference on World against Violence and Extremism with the participation of representatives from over 40 countries in the world.
